Mẹ, mother in the northern Vietnamese dialect, follows two generations of moms as they create a new dish for the family restaurant. Reimagining their parent’s pho shop, the next generation carries on the family legacy through Vietnamese cuisine.
The film that started it all...
I had just graduated from university and moved back home to Vancouver trying to figure out what to do with my life. I saw an open call for projects to submit to an arts festival. I settled on this passion project in the form of a Documentary Short Film highlighting my childhood friends and their families surrounded by food of course. Five years later, now in 2020, I'm still making films and loving food.
A candid look into the lives of 4 families with origins from 4 different countries coexisting along a single street in Vancouver. Taste of Identity explores the traditions of culture and cuisine in Canada examining what defines the identity of a city.
